STEM School Program

AstroCamp is a unique residential outdoor science school providing an exciting, STEM-based, outdoor educational experience for 4th through 12th-grade students from public and private schools. We offer three-day residential field trips Monday-Wednesday, Wednesday-Friday, and Friday-Sunday.

We also offer five-day trips with additional program options from Monday to Friday.

Experiential Science

Our focus on hands-on experiential science, utilizing state-of-the-art labs and equipment, increases science literacy and stimulates interest in the sciences. Our expert instructors guide students through an exploration of the universe with astronomy labs, physical science labs, field exercises, and team-building activities.

We use a variety of high powered telescopes and giant binoculars to view the night sky including Video Telescopes, CCD Imaging Telescopes, and Solar Telescopes.

Tour Our Facility

AstroCamp is located among the rolling hills in Halifax County, Virginia about two hours north of Raleigh, North Carolina. Our beautiful 406-acre facility and labs offer state of the art equipment for exploring physical sciences, the natural world, and outer space. We have designed our program areas to maximize summer fun and hands-on learning to help campers build crucial communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Outdoor Education

Outside of our hands-on science labs, the world is calling to be explored.

Our instructors can lead a series of hikes and other biological walks and give students a chance to be immersed into different ecosystems all without leaving AstroCamp.

With our diverse activity schedule, we spend time both indoors and outdoors.

Exploring Science

Our state-of-the-art labs and observatory enable us to create an environment that enlivens the senses and builds an even greater thirst for knowledge within each student.

Whether it’s building and launching rockets or crashing a cosmic lander, students are engrossed in fun hands-on experiential learning.

Evening Camp Fun

In addition to the core activities and elective programs, every evening we plan events to build friendship and community. These programs are social, interactive, and engaging and can include campfires, team building, and treats.

HEAR FROM OUR

Happy Students, Teachers, and Principals

From Students, Teachers, and Principals:

AstroCamp serves as an extension of what we do in the classroom academically, and adds the team building we can't at school

Linwood Richards Teacher

AstroCamp's science program is a terrific follow-up and enhancement to our fifth-grade science curriculum. The counselors are thoroughly knowledgeable in physics and space astronomy. They deliver instruction with fun and hands-on activities.

Jim Wong 5th Grade Teacher

The AstroCamp program is a marketing tool. We are the only school in the district who comes and parents send their children to us for the opportunity.
